As with the Coupé, the new 6.5-litre 60° V-engine with 631bhp is now used also in the Lamborghini Murciélago Roadster. At 6000 rpm the 12-cylinder engine reaches the maximum torque of 660Nm.

The maximum speed now lies at over 205mph compared to 200 mph. The standard sprint from 0-62 mph is now reached by the Roadster in 3.4 seconds making it 0.4 seconds faster than its predecessor.

The Roadster has six-gear transmission with an e-gear transmission with a newly tuned thrust mode (acceleration program) available as an option. Like its forerunner, the new model has permanent four-wheel drive.

New design features include the new front and rear bumpers as well as a new rear diffuser, in which the exhaust system is integrated within a tailpipe. The rear lights have also been restyled. Other features are new windscreen wipers and the option of Hermera alloy wheels.

Inside there are perforated leather for the chair cushions and a dashboard tunnel console and the door lining on the driver’s side. The instrument panel has also been redesigned with different display graphics.

This includes a new Kenwood car radio with a 6.5″ widescreen monitor and reader for DVD, MP3 and WMA. The navigation system (standard equipment in Japan) is also available as an option.

Like its predecessor, the Murciélago LP640 Roadster can be customised through special equipment packages. The price has not yet been confirmed but Lamborghini is estimating that it will be about 10% more expensive than the Coupé which costs £190,000.
